II am the architect that designed this hospital in 1956 for La Liga Contra la Ceguera. It was founded by Dr. Tomas R. Yanes, very well known eye surgeon Doctor in the whole world. This Hospital was designed as a teaching hospital and world reasearch center, and many eye doctors in the whole world at that time were colaborating with Dr. Yanes in this project. I had the oportunity to meet many of them in the process of the design of this Hospital. This hospital served for few years since founded to the cuban population, rich and poor(free for the poor), it was a tremendous community support and as envisioned by Dr. Yanes. Like you can see, this building never was finished when we left Cuba in 1960. The Castro government tried to finished this building, but never as original designed, and of course the hospital never was a hospital for eye care, since all the doctors involved never were interested in a hospital of different specialty. I like to thanks the photographers that took these pictures and Googel Earth for publishing them, because since I left Cuba I have never seen this building again. It is a shame such a Hospital never was finished as envisioned by Dr. Yanes. Emilio Fernandez.
