Grandma (Angeline Campanella)immigrated from Trebisacce, at the age of 15 & arrived at Ellis Island in New York City on May 22, 1907 on the ship Luisiana. Her name is listed as Angela on the ship's manifest. And her town as Trebisacce. Two passengers from Trebisacce that were likely traveling with her, have the last name DeVita: her mother's maiden name. Grandma was met by her brother, Antonio Campanella, from Hazleton, PA, who had arrived in the US earlier. Grandma married Rocco DeMarco (fairly certain it was an arranged marriage). His name may have been spelled DeMarchi and changed here in the US to DeMarco, then shortened to Demark.
Grandpa Rocco worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines, then they moved to Salineville, Ohio. After his death (he was in his early 40's), Grandma and their 7 children moved to Sebring, Ohio to reside closer to relatives (the 2 married sisters of Rocco). His first name is still a puzzle; his death certificate lists him as 'Rock.' I wish I knew more about the village in Italy where Grandma was born. One of her children (Mary, that wrote correspondence for Grandma to relatives in Italy) thought she was from Campobasso, not Trebisacce. Grandma told me she lived in Calabria, in the 'heel of the boot.' She died when I was 7. However, my many cherished memeories of her are very vivid.
