We are from the Netherlands 60 and 62 years and like driving off road in Colorado Utah and Arizona. Our favorite is the Maze Overlook and the Flint Trail
In the road 200 feet in front of the car we got to our axes in the mud.
The rangers told us later that this is the place where the problems always occur. It is approximatively half way between the Needles and Natural Bridge. and two miles before the split to GooseBerry Ranger station
The water is collected here from the hills and forms infact a small lake so the ground/road is full of water what you can see on the photo
This is the Salt Creek Canyon just behind Cathedral Butte before you make the last few miles to the entry of Manty Lasale Mountains The sand road changes from here into a muddy road. it is not difficult but the road is narrowing with a lot of hairpins. We found a lot of mud and even with a Jeep is was very hard to drive we were in the mud to our axes.
This hair pin with this kind of car cannot be done in one turn you have to do it in two or three times the view in to the canyon is spectacular and in fact you have had the most difficult part of the down hill ride
when you drive from or to the maze overlook there is a part of 3 to 4 miles where the trail follows a dry flood this is the view from the maze overlook to the flinttrail 2007
The road from the Flintrail to Hite 40 miles easy to drive with a four weel with a beautifull view on Lake Powell and the mountains behind. if you look to the left you can also see the top of cataract canyon

In this point three years ago (during our honeymoon) we had a problem... There was to "save" a breakdown truck to Loa. We had a Toyota RAV4 :-)))
In the mirror you can see our suitcases...

June 2009 the road looks good but the rain in the month of May makes the road in the higher parts more or less impassable
we added a photo of the hairpin in detail look for that
