...dangerous enough place in the summer, imagine slipping on the moss and falling down between boulders as large as a small house. In winter, truly not the place to visit. Stay on the lake.

There used to be a large combination wooden/steel dam/bridge/log drive sluice gate here, Camp 1, for years. Around 2000,a forest fire burnt it all down, dropping the water level in the lake about 4-5 feet. In 2003, an excavator covered this cribbing with about 4-5 feet of large cobbles, to try to stabilize the water level. Now, in '09, the winter ice has swept this all away, dropping the lake water level another 4-5 feet. Now there's a channel being cut by the river, right thru the moraine here which crosses the river, a deep channel right into 10,000 year-old glacial clay. There's only a small patch of moraine cobbles holding back what's left of Eskwanonwatin Lake. SO, just watch 'er rip, next spring thaw!
