what we are looking at in this picture is blairs valley, across the valley from kasies' knob is whitetail ski resort, the civil war tower is on the mountain range past whitetail in this picture, on google earth it would almost be directly to the west. but the area is fairly easy to do day hikes in, the trip to the top of this mountain took 45 minutes and i was carrying a 50lb pack and a rifle. I know for sure the site on hearthstone mountain to the southwest is restricted due to its military importance but aside from that the only trouble you may get in is from private land owners but they are usually reasonable and nice if you are mannerly with them.
