The orchid display is the most beautiful decor in the Taoyuan Taiwan International Airport. When I depart from the airport, I see the beautiful orchid display (in both Terminals 1 and 2) and I eagerly anticipate my return trip home.

Guilin Shangrila (located in Baisha near YangShuo) has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. I can imagine when the ex-politician turned poet wrote about this place centuries ago, it must have been even more beautiful than it is today. It has now been developed into a theme park featuring a 20 min boat tour of Shangrila and an intro of some of the aboriginal cultures of the nearby areas.

Silver Cave is about 80km south of Guilin City. We stopped by the Silver Cave on our way down to YangShuo. The staglagmites and staglactites were incredible. The colorful lights brighten up the cave in a really unique way. The guided tour spanned two km of the cave. It is really hot inside about 22-24°C year around (compared to 13°C in Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.)

Camel mountain located inside Seven Star Park was the backdrop where President Clinton gave his "green speech" on environmental protection during his 1998 visit to Guilin City. Other cities also on his itinerary included Hong Kong, Xi'an, Beijing, and Shanghai.

Lijiang Waterfall Hotel is by far the best hotel in the city. It has an incredible 10 story atrium with rooms overlooking the atrium as well as outside into the city. The view from the hotel rooms are of the Peach Blosson River, bustling city streets and Zhengyang Pedestrian Shopping Street. Be sure to reserve a hotel room overlooking the city view rather than the atrium.

Twin Peak Golf Resort has three nine hole courses - mountain view, water view, and rock view. We really enjoyed mountain view, but rock view was really random and did not reward good play. We did not like the fact that rock view relied upon luck rather than skill. Caddy was so so at reading the greens and providing course knowledge. Overall, it was a good experience as the view of the surrounding area from the course was INCREDIBLE. The food at the one restaurant at Twin Peak was pretty good too!

Located 12km east of downtown Guilin City, Yaoshan Mountain is the only "dirt" mountain in the area and is the tallest mountain in Guilin. The cable car was completed in 1996 and is over 1400 meters long. The cable car was imported from Austria. We were told that you can't ride on the enclosed cars but you can ride only on the ski lift type chairs.
