J'ai eu la chance d'en avoir une explication par un jeune étudiant qui le présentait bénévolement. Cela a duré près d'une heure et ce fut passionnant. Amitiés, Christian
One of the MANY granite churches in this town, which also the location of the world's largest open-face granite quarry! Said quarry is mapped to Flat Rock NC (the one in Surry Co.). I have uploaded some Mt. Airy pix today and plan to do some more. Great town!
Yes indeed! It's a good place to enjoy international cuisine. Good service also! I hold my birthday there this year!
PS: The Christmas decorations are still not removed here in mid-March! ;-)
A former gasoline station was renovated in the 1980s to house this fine jewelry store. Now an Asheville landmark in a town that appreciates its pre-WWII architecture.
Impressive memorial sculpture--
Very glad you enjoyed seeing it, Melinda! It's such a wonderful, little known piece of historical trivia in the area, (although if the Martians landed here now, they'd be stuck in a lot of traffic!) Best wishes, pear
I've decided that it must be a crypt, but I don't know who's !
Founded in 1867, this is a historically-Black congregation, now with a diverse, open, active population. The present building was erected in 1894 and has recently seen much restoration, thanks to donations from the community-at-large. It is a beautiful space with fine acoustics. The church hosts a weekly public concert--classical, jazz, new music on Sunday afternoons.
Merci, Liliane, for your kind visit to my gallery and for your comment on my "yellow flowers" picture! I am fond of that photo myself, and when I saw it in my library today, I thought, "just the thing for Panoramio!" This view of yours inside the church is beautiful. I love the verticality, and the play of light. Well done!
Greetings from NC, Melinda
