I'd say less latitude that what I'm hearing Nikon D600/D800/D7100 raws are capable of. I understand that Canon excels at highlight recovery, but shadow detail/noise is a weak point. So this was rather neutrally exposed, with blscks and deeper shadows added in post (just a lil' twist of the curve). I'm finding I don't need to worry about noise and detail at all up to ISO 2500 with about any reasonable exposure; or much higher if I overexpose a bit. That ISO 20K shot from about a month ago was quite noisy, though (fine if linear size reduced by about 50-70% for the web). Maybe ISO 10K is the limit for most shots.

Thank you, Kevin! I even have to stop waaaay down to just squeeze the birdie into the DOF. The swallow was close to MFD, that's why.

Well, what do I know? I kinda dislike how it extends along the frame and doesn't do anything exciting. (Hmmm, like WHAT?)

Curious if you used the TC on this one - wasn't sure if the Mark III would record the combined focal length in the EXIF?

Thanks a bunch, kenfowkes, Patty, and Mr. Verbiage! This male mallard and his mate were busy grubbing on peanut shells and seemed to care less that I sat down right in their midst. I could even stroke my hand across their back feathers as they waddled past me! I swear the male enjoyed having his portrait made ... the first time he heard the shutter slap he stood up tall and rigid! So I stuck the camera in his face and clicked away ... I think I even see a smile.
