Hey Wic,, I forget to check in here. I'm a little slow nowadays. After I found you on Dak's FB page and we connected today I decided to get back and check Panoramio,, and holy moley,,, you've already been here..
I was stationed there in 79-80 and I was known as WIC. I especially remember Spiros, he always made me laugh. It was great being able to cook something for yourself after hours as long as you didn't leave the grill dirty for the cooks in the morning. Good times and good memories.
Bob "Dak" Halverson and I ended up here in the Sacramento Calif, area in 1985.
He was at McClellan AFB and I was at the Hospital at Mather AFB. Dak worked in the Power Production Plant at Lefkas and was a First Sergeant here at McClellan AFB. He just told me on Facebook that he met some people from Greece recently at his job and they told him there was an earthquake on the East side of Lefkada,, where Long Beach was,,,(as we called it) I guess the official name is Kathisma Beach, or Ergemi Beach,,, and the beach as we knew it is gone.. I googled it and sure enough found some photos and a youtube from a fisherman's boat of when the earthquake was rumbling back on 17 Nov 2015...
Got here in June 82. Left here May 83. What a year. One female and she was off limits. We drank, hiked, lifted weights, watched videos, read books, studied manuals and dream of females. Owe I forgot, if it was your time you went on a store run to Athens. Get laid!
Man walking up that hill to your work place was a chore. My legs got big. So high up you can walk through clouds on some days. Watch fighter jets pass through the valley. What a site.
While I was here I had the biggest room even though I was the lowest ranked. Nobody wanted to share a room. I remember Lt. Weber. Boy could he drink; lol. Thank you Richard Galecky for building us a bar. Rum and coke please.
I never went in the warehouse or admin building. The Greek nationals took care of the warehouse and you can sign your paper work anywhere in the barracks. Hello to Derek King and Craig Romero, Stetham, the Earl of Sheets and Kildejerk-82 thru 83.

I was one of the guys that kept the floors nice and clean there back in 79-80. Sad to see it abandoned and a crap hole now.
