Thanks Am. I got a cheap digi cam just for the exact purposes. The golden mean is something I just came across in a painting book. Trial and error and free judgement always work in my book. I love the atmosphere's. Glad you're enjoying. this is a great site and i'm yet to upload a load or unload. Argh stop me waffling. Back to snapping, nice chatting/ commenting.

Don't know about the 200 miles to London, the sign on the other side of the track is also pointing out the 200 miles to Edinburgh.

This photo was taken just before sunset on 16/3/2008, looking west. The roof visible left of centre is the derelict hydro-electric power station on Linton Lock island. The roof with 3 chimney stacks to the right is Linton Lock house.

This is a master piece of engineering that I witnessed being built. Although it costs a few pounds for motorists to cross it saves both time and money as it enables traffic to cross from Yorkshire into Lincolnshire at a quarter of the time it would otherwise take crossing at Goole. Sadly the bridge is still being paid for as it has not been taken over by the government.

This picture shows what was known as Overton Woods. The fir trees covered several acres and one could easily get lost within. During the First World War my father helped to fell much of this wood as the timber was urgently needed for use in building the trenches in France.

This deisel hauled train is approaching the old station at Shipton by Beningbrough. Sadly most of the station was ripped up years ago so there is nothing of interest to see her. In its heyday it was a busy station with its own station master for which a new house was built to house him and his family. Local passenger trains used to stop and pick up passengers here. A goods yard also saw much traffic caused by local coal merchants unloading trucks of coal then putting it into sacks before selling it to local villagers. All the buildings seen in this pictures were erected here well after the station closed.

This shot shows the village green with the maypole behind it. I have visited this village hundreds of times since 1935. The local public house is named the "Alice Hawthorne" after a famous race horse. Good home cooked food is available in the said pub.

This is the majestic Beningborough Hall that before the war was the home of the Earl and Countess of Chesterfield. There was a huge staff employed most of which lived in the quarters in the loft space. Others lived in Newton-on-Ouse. There was a first class cricket ground located on the north side of the Hall in the 1930's. My father was one of the people that groomed the said ground. I used to love watching cricket played here in the 1930's but sadly this was not continued after the war.
