I believe it was not built as a bike path but as the Vanderbilt expressway, and cars at one time drove on it. Or at least that was what I was told 50 or so years ago when I used to ride my bike on it.

This path doe not lie in Kissena Park but within the Kissena Corridor West. The corridor is not part of Kissena Park as it may seem.
