Fantastic pictures, Jorge! I've corrected the title of my picture to read "Bateiras". Thank you for correcting me. The location I set is exactly on the dock at the place where I took my photo. The name was given by Panoramio by default.

Erected by pre-Christians. This stone has since been "tagged" by Christian stone-carving vandals, many hundreds of years ago.

Taken at the site where Van Gough made this painting. Just to the right is the facade of some ancient Roman building... It was as interesting to see what Van Gough chose not to paint, as it was to see what he did choose.

"Tirer"?!? One of the original gates still extant along this canal. "The Nivernais Canal was built in the early 1800's to transport firewood from the Morvan forests to Paris. As the firewood demands increased there was a need to transport logs from further away, and many areas of the Seine and Loire were not navigable. The Nivernais essentially connects these two rivers for commercial transport."
