Was just in the valley visiting family. It is truly a beautiful canyon. I'm sure it would be great to float! I'll see if I have any others worthy of panoramio. :)
Well, I poked around near the top too. First was a BLM Site, Head Canyon Vehicle Competition Area, which seemed strangely small for its apparent purpose, with access farther east blocked by a fence and locked gate... apparently British Petroleum owns the land.
Farther south on the Bisit Highway I came to another dirt road... this ended at another gate and fence, which looked new. Sign indicated it was also owned by B-Square Ranch. This was due west of the trail head photo you have on here. I hopped the fence and walked about 20 yards to a nice overlook of the canyon, and the road going down into it.
I imagine in the 1980s access was easier, before all the hysteria over liability and litigation. It's a shame, since the bluffs are the most attractive feature of Farmington, but the only publicly-accessible areas are overrun with and scarred by ATVs. Maybe Bolack has conservation plans for this property?
They are along a stream bed. They begin at ground level, with some going as high as about 15 feet. The wide angle lens I used distorts it a bit. Thanks for your interest
