I have been exploring the rivers of western China since 1994 and my website is a database of first descents (dates, locations, videos, photos, participants, journals, geology and geography, and whether the section is a good repeat run). Contact me if you are interested in joining an expedition.

Very interesting pictures, and they do fill in several gaps. Thanks. With good roads on both banks all the way maybe "explore" is not the rigt word to describe what the American kayakers did in 1986.

Is this the source? How far is it from the source claimed by Sven Hedin in 1906?

Incredible shot!

The German and Russian may have been there, but they are not the first explorers. The headwater of Xiangquan He is in Ger County. There was a Chinese military base in Qing dynasty. A documentary team of Augest First Film Studio has been there in 50's last century and a scientist team has worked there in 80's. I know that because I was supposed to be one of them. My studio has asigned film crew there at least twice in 80's.

Nice scenery! Regards, Andrey

Wild and beautiful nature. Love it.
