Beautifully displayed finds from indian tribes the lived there on the property long ago. Very interesting place for families. Really nice horse trails, hiking along the White River. All free, all year!!!
The photo is incorrectly located. Chesterfield, Indiana is in Madison County, USA. I have no idea what State Jefferson County is in, but this courthouse does not exist in Chesterfield, Indiana, USA
The trails are not wooden walkways and there are rugged trail options. As it is a National Park they do suggest staying on the marked trails and not going "through the bush". As I wasn't looking for climbing opportunities, I can't speak to them.
That said, there are terrific options to do some pretty rigorous hiking with 300+ ft elevation changes that are nowhere near the Visitor Center and other tourists. And this time of year (October) is absolutely beautiful there. There are several pre-made campsites that you can 'reserve' for free by going to the Visitor Center and letting them know you'll be there. They have some great topo maps of the area I recommend you take with you.
I haven't found any better hiking in the Midwest. I am sure you'll enjoy it.
