To be surprised, to wonder, is to begin to understand. This is the sport, the luxury, special to the photographer. The gesture characteristic of this tribe consists in looking at the world with eyes wide open in wonder. Everything in the world is strange and marvelous to well-open eyes. This faculty of wonder leads the photographer through life in the perpetual ecstasy of the visionary. His special attribute is the wonder of the eyes. Hence it was that the ancients gave Minerva her owl, the bird with ever-dazzled eyes. Good catch of this bridge and river.

Hard to believe we've never run into each other -- we seem to be attracted to many of the same photo sites! I have stood where you were standing -- but not when the river was so FULL!

Remember when we hurried under the I-93 highway to get to the North End - skirting around trash and homeless shopping carts? Now we stroll through this light-filled arbor!

Una toma muy sugestiva. L+F Saludos, jantoni.

We have plenty of monks in Toronto, mostly not visible like this, but with several Thai, Lao, Vietnamese and Indian temples, if I really try, I can find similar photo opportunity at home....

Wonderful loneliness. Great shot. LF

Or maybe the title should be "Outside In" or "Unsheltered Shelter", since this structure has the feeling of being semi-enclosed, in spite of being permanently open to the elements.
