Headrow, these are great. I have commented on almost all of this set of photos - but mostly under my originals. With regard to this one, I think you have captured it well. Whilst I think you are one street further East (I took the original from the gable-end attic window of 34 Autumn Place - between Autumn Place and Grove, not Autumn Place and Street) that does correct somewhat for the different elevation.
On the right you can see the curb goes in and the house no longer has the tiny front yard. This is clearly the sam place as where the road comes round in front of the pedestrianised bit.
It's interesting what you say about the pedestrianisation. When I lived there in the 80s people were really uite negative about it. The problem being that it had removed all the through traffic and that meant the businesses on Burley Lodge Road saw greatly reduced custom and that depressed the area (and it was pretty depressed in those days). I wonder whether their removal has reversed that. I expect not - when it's gone it stays gone.
I am pretty sure that this was taken looking W from the gable-end attic window of 34 Autumn Place (clearly visible in your photo), which is the west side of Autumn Place so the end of the last N-S terrace. This is the terrace between Autumn Place and Autumn Grove and you can't see the latter because of the elevation. I reckon your photo is from the end of the terrace one further E - between Autumn Place and Autumn Street. (Very pedantic of me!)
Well, I would never have recognised it! But it is just about spot on - I think you have got one more shop on the left hand side. Which is I think where my favourite curry house used to be - the Eastern Delight. I ate there regularly for years, then in the late 80s moved south and in the mid 90s to Australia. I came back to visit after about ten years and they recognised me and remembered my favourite dish!
Headrow, I think you have taken a picture from exactly where I put the pin in the map - at the end of Kelsall Terrace, but I am now doubting my accuracy. The end of terrace building on the left does not look right. The upper floor no longer has a window and there is no sign that it was bricked in. Studying the rooves and the attic extensions, I am now pretty convinced that this is Kelsall Grove and I have moved the pin accordingly (look at the four attic extensions on the left with the second being more prominent)
I seem to recall that there was a T-shaped interconnecting corridor and this was taken facing east from that nort-south bridge - which I think can be seen as a white stripe about 120ft west of the pin on the map which marks the corner of this building on the left side of the photo (actually, looking more closely the pin is where the roof steps up, about a third of the way from the left of the photo and a similar distance from the top). The main E-W building was the Admin centre for the University, I recall. I think this N-S bridge may have gone towards Astbury student accom?
