It is a long time ago now since I took the photos. I think you are right about it being from Meanwood Beck at the SE end just as it reached the built-up area. Isn't that where I have the pin in the map? Or am I confused? Please suggest a more accurate location.

I attempted a reproduction of this photo in the summer of 2009, but from street level rather than an upstairs window. Unfortunately the 'landscaping' looks to have been removed at some point in the intervening twenty-eight years, passing control of the street from pedestrians to traffic.

This is a rough reproduction of a photo from 1981 by Simon Fleming, but from street level rather than an upstairs window.

This is an attempt to reproduce a photo from 1981 by Simon Fleming, who I'll credit for the composition.

This was an attempt at reproducing a photo from 1981 by Simon Fleming, who I'll credit for the composition. There have been several interesting changes in twenty-eight years, but most striking to me was the unfortunate increase in parked cars and traffic.

I was attempting to reproduce a photo from 1981 by Simon Fleming, but he seems to have taken his from a skyway I couldn't access, so I settled for a view of the side of the building and this photo of the ground in front of it. The trees have grown up and there are cars and bikes now parked down here, but apart from a new tall building in the distance not much has changed.

Well, five months on I was at a loose end one afternoon and finally got round to this mission! It probably would have been better to try and reproduce this photo in the days that snow was on the ground this winter, but the summer will have to do!
My photo of this back alley looks fairly similar apart from the obvious seasonal changes and the apparent felling of a tree on the left at the far end. The house on the right nearest the camera has since been converted into a Spar corner shop. A more visible change is the profusion of wheelie bins. This and the increase in parked cars on the front of Leeds's streets (to saturation point) is the most striking visual difference (apart from changes in specific buildings) between the 1980s and 2009, as far as I can tell from your photos.

I attempted a reproduction of this photo in the summer of 2009 but couldn't get it quite right, which when I was there I put down to the blanket of snow covering up roads and paths, and the summer leafiness on my visit. It's possible the actual location of this photo is a short distance to the southeast of the location given, but I didn't suspect this until comparing the high-res versions of the two photos with an aerial image.

This was the view I settled on after an attempt to reproduce a photo from 1983 by Simon Fleming. The snow in that photo and likelihood of changes in the built environment in this formerly industrial area made it difficult to be sure whether I was in the right place or not, but I eventually decided something couldn't be quite right. I do believe that the chimney stack in this image could well be the one on the left in the photo from 1983, but seen from a unknown different angle.
