The centre was also described by HRH Prince Charles as a 'carbuncle' on the face of the city. It's easy to see why.

I was a regular customer in this pub back in the late 80's (and well remember the sale to Hardy & Hanson's) up to early 2000's, so there's little you can tell me about this place. As for the 'Ring the Bull' game, I can put the ring on the horn from 6 different positions and even after a skinful. I've watched a lot of people try it and they didn't have the faintest idea until I showed them how easy it is. The Ship in the box upstairs used to hang from the ceiling in the 'Ward Room' downstairs and there is supposed to be a curse on it to the effect that anyone attempting to clean it will suffer death in some way.

You're very kind, Raysalaugh, thanks very much!

This photo, though, is taken with a compact - a Panasonic DMC-LX2. It is absolutely brilliant - so many features in such a compact body, & with wide-angle lens, too - but I bought it over 2 yaers ago & I'd bet there are better compacts out there now.

I got fed up of the shutter lag, though, & it wasn't good at taking photos of kids indoors - the main focus of my photography since the birth of my son - & wanted a DSLR for litle money, so my newer photos are with a Nikon D40. Fewer MPs than this Panasonic (6, don't tell anyone), but I infinitely prefer the results, especially with flash or in low light.

It's all a question of which trade-offs you're prepared to make. Now when I handle this Panasonic I marvel at its small size & relative power - but I'd almost always rather take my Nikon in a relatively bulky case & just put up with it being bigger.

Let me know what you decide - & Hapy New(ish) 2009 to you, too!

All best wishes,

Sarah
