I had a heart attack at age 54 and retired 9 monthes later and hiked thruout the SW US the next 8 years. These are the pictures of where my hiking took me. The first 5 years most of my hiking was solo. Then I met a gentleman who was doing the same thing and we hiked together most of the time for the next 3 years. The timeframe was 1993 to 2001.

Change of name made. Thanks

Nice photo and what a work out to reach this place. Thank you.

I'm sorry I didn't notice your response for 3.5 years. I've found the actual Crater Lake that gets stocked. It's a little green pond just barely south of Salina Reservoir, north of the summit of Gooseberry Road on the FLP.

Small fish in there, but quite a beautiful little lake.

Thank you for sharing this great photo. I made that short trek up to Babyfoot many times back in the 70's and 80's. Your photo shows the beauty of this area before the Biscuit Fire in 2002.

Do you remember if this was exactly at 36° 16' 1.61" N 108° 13' 10.03" W or was that just a guess? I'm looking to go here this fall and I really want to see this formation!

Elliot, I've forgotten which Panoramio name you can use these days. We'd email chatted a bit ago regarding this area. (I was dshorb at the time). Google's method, makes it so I can't access that account these days. I'd like to chat about this area. So, if you get a chance, can you email me at I'm thinking about skiing the CDT through here (Cumbres to Wolf Creek Pass). Thanks.

sweet photo by the way

iin my opinion it is best to hike such locations... let the explorers find it but not broadcast it.

Of course you've been here too.

I was looking at your pictures through the old burn and Big Sandy Lake. Were you able to hike through this section? If so, what year? Love your pictures. Thanks for your insights.
