Hi Diane
The Redrisc farms are fitted at 1,530 meters altitude. You can see them from the plain, soaring in the sky and placed on a thin ridge that separates two wild and steep valleys. They still remain there, showing the effort of the alpine farmers who are the true heroes of our time, but also of the past, because here, until a few decades ago, hunger was at home. Now there only are goats, wind and silence.
Greetings from the southern side of the Swiss Alps, Andrea

One thing that we don't do enough is to browse into our older shots. So, glad that you have found this picture which shows a typical alpine-farmer settlement. The area were I live is now a nice and appreciated touristic destination. However most of our visitors don't imagine that life used to be very hard around here. People had to climb on height and steep mountains to find some pasture. They had to invent impossible routes to win incredible heigh differences and move on vertical walls. The alpine rural architecture is the prove of the human ability and ingenious though unspeakable difficulties. It's not as famous as the architecture of the pre-Columbian civilizations but it but it is equally incredible and important.
