Welcome back, ƤōƝƓ. This is beach, dune system and island were created by the longshore drift of sand, northwards along the NSW and south Queensland coast. Volcanic islands, lava flows or uplifted sandstone geology interrupts the flow temporarily accumulating sand on the southern side of the resulting headlands. During the Pleistocene ice age the volume of sand available was massive and the onshore winds then blow the sand from the beach ridge to the NW in longitudinal dunes. Since vegetated. The forests then are on sand and are very vulnerable ecosystems, susceptible to fire, animal or human traffic for where the cover has been broken or removed, sand blows form, and the sand migrates again burying vegetation, even forests in its path.

Gold Coast beaches, Sunshine Coast beaches are all part of this river of sand, as are the major sand islands of Stradbroke, Moreton, Fraser.

There is 165M fall here, which makes it a magnet to me, and each time I stand in the gorge awesome, majestic and special are the words that come from my lips.

Thanks for your appreciation, ƤōƝƓ.
