Hey Nancy, I think I went to this camp around 1967. The only reason I say 1967 is because The Doors "Light My Fire" was on the radio a lot, and it was released in 1967. When I was there Chickagami was a boys camp and the girls were across the lake at a camp called Nackawakwa not sure of the spelling. I remember we would raid them. Many memories.
Thank you for posting this series of photos. I have never heard of ETA Camps, but am glad to see this area is being used. When I attended this camp it went by the name of Camp Chickagami. I attended camp here for 5 summers and also many spring troop camping weekends in the late 60's and early 70's. It was a Girl Scout Camp operated by a GS Council from central NJ. You have brought back many happy memories for me. There were a total of 6 different camping units (Chickadees, Rusty Owls, Rocky Ledge, Eagle's Nest, High Haven and Water front) spread out to make the complete camp at that time.
Still in the same location I remember, edge of lake just before the outlet stream. The tent platforms from the camping unit know as "Rusty Owls" can be seen across this narrowing area in the trees. (aka Camp Chickagami)
These platforms held heavy yellow canvas tents. The tent sides could be rolled up. There was also a central wooden support beam that supported both the tent and a green weather proof tarp that covered the top of the tent.
This is the 2nd dock/crib that was built for this camp. The original swimming and boat launch area was further down the lake in the area that would have been the nearest walking distance from the half house unit. (Camp Chickagami 1960's and 70's)
Mess hall is through the main doors. The building wing on the right (What is in reality the back) is the kitchen area. The mess hall originally was open on it's exterior sides and was enclosed in the 1970's. (Formally known as Camp Chickagami)
Camp Chickagami - Director's Cabin. This is in such poor condition. You label these photos as Camp ETA. Is that the name of this location now? In the 60's and 70's it was a summer Girl Scout camp operated by the Rahway Girl Scout Council out of central NJ. The address this camp was known at at that time was UT2, Central Valley, NY. Woodbury did not exist.
Camp Chickagami - half houses. There were a total of 5 of these plus 1 tent platform in this unit called "Chickadees". The youngest campers lived here.
Camp Chickagami (Girl Scout Camp) I attended this camp in the late 60's and early 70's. This is the main latrine in the central area of the camp. The building behind and to the left is the dining hall.
