The Clark Fork Watershed Education Program (CFWEP) fosters environmental stewardship and scientific decision making through place-based learning. The Clark Fork River links the largest contiguous complex of federal Superfund sites in the U.S. Ecosystems and communities in the area have been heavily impacted by historic mining and smelting wastes. Based at the Montana Tech Technical Outreach Department in Butte, Montana, the CFWEP is a multi-disciplinary science outreach program for schools, teachers and the public in and around the Upper Clark Fork Basin. The largest Superfund site in the U.S. also serves as a showcase for environmental understanding, and how a damaged ecosystem can be restored.
