The Coggeshall House is a single block, one-and-a-half story, cape cod cottage that is located on a corner lot. It is approximately 24 by 16 feet and sits on a rubblework foundation. It has a gambrel split wood shingled roof, 2 shed roofed dormers and a centered rubblework chimney.
The façade of the building faces south, is painted red and has beaded weatherboards attached using cut nails. It has three eight-over-eight, asymmetrically placed encasement windows on the ground floor, two on the left of the front door, one to the right. Dormer encasement windows are six-over-six, all windows are simply framed with no adornments. Two rubblework steps lead you from the street to the front door which has 2 raised panels, one over the other and is painted black. The door suround has a bead running along the inside of it, subtly framing the entrance.
Both east and west sides of the house are shingled (split wood) and have a window on the first floor as well as in the gable. All window molding and endposts are painted red for a decorative effect that ties all elements of the house together.
