I am retired and exploring the world on foot, by canoe and kayak. You see and experience much more this way. No luxury resorts on some tropical beach for me.
Canada/USA customs office,
View from the top of the World Highway. This area has never been glaciated which would have produced rounded valley bottoms. Only water flowing forms V shaped valley bottoms.
The highest point in North America. It's called Denali in Alaska, Mt. McKinley in the south.
One of many glaciers on Denali
Fortymile caribou heard and interesting piles of rocks. There was an estimated 240,000 of them in the 1930's, and only 6,500 by the 1970's. It has rebounded to 55,000 animals by 2014. The native people take them by the thousands, but the heard will increase 25 % per year on it's own. Consider it a giant beef farm, you must take 25% per year to prevent over grazing the land, causing a 97 % crash in their numbers. The pasture is very slow to recover. Near the Yukon Alaska border.
Mt. Chimborazo, the highest peak in South America( 6,268 m. ) and the greatest distance from the center of earth, on earth. Near Quito Equador. Earth is an oblate sphere, wider (6378 km.) at the equator than at the poles (6357 km.). Thus the peak here is 1.3 km. further from the centre of earth, than the peak of Mt.Everest and 27 km. more than the north pole.. You would weigh 0.8 % less at the peak, than at the north pole. It is 100 m. taller than Denali Alaska.
USA Customs Office, Top of the World Highway. Population 2 people, tens of thousand caribou.
Panning for Gold in Alaska. He actually had a few small nuggets. He was on holidays from Seatle.

Mt. Logan, Canada's highest peak, the 2nd highest in North America. It has multiple peaks, the highest is 5,959 m. (19,551 ft.) above sea level. It has 11 peaks over 5,000 m. (16,400 ft) and has the largest base circumference of any non-volcanic mountain on earth. It is more of a plateau, than a peak like other major mountains. The mean temperature at the peak is -27 C, several major glaciers begin here. Viewing west.

ALASKA. Unstable ice and snow on Denali (Mt. McKinley, AK)
This pipe line carries oil from Prudhoe Bay, production is now down by 70% from it's peak. Oil fields around the world are failing too. World production has not grown for 5 years, but population is up by 7 %. That explains the prices today.
Denali Alaska, the highest peak in North America at 6,168 m. tall. Chimborazo in Equador is 100 m. higher. Mt. Logan, the tallest mountain in Canada is 398 m. shorter. It is the tallest land based mountain in the world. The base of Mt.Everest is at 17,000 ft, over 5,200 m. or about the height ot the cloud line just below the peak. The base here is only 600 m. above sea level. Denali is actually about 2 km. taller, but not higher than Everest.
