I am retired and exploring the world on foot, by canoe and kayak. You see and experience much more this way. No luxury resorts on some tropical beach for me.
Beavers cut a lot of trees here. That is very hard maple wood. The many fallen trees make paddling Gull Creek to Sheffield Lake and then the Upper Salmon River very difficult.
Claire River at it highest point. It drains east and west from here.
The Claire River flows west to the Moria River here. The direction of flow is determined by which of 2 dams is the highest.
This little beaver dam regulated the rate of flow of the head waters of the Claire River to the east. There is another dam that regulates the flow west. The river can drain either way. This is exceptionally low water for spring time.
Sheffield Lake is a beautiful lake, but there is no good public access.
A beaver house, dozens were seen, sometimes on shore, sometimes out from shore. The enterance is always an underwater tunnel.
Beaver dam blocks Claire River here. Mud and weeds packed on the water side block almost all water flow.
Claire River drains east to the Salmon River here, it also drains west to the Moria River at Stoco Lake. This is exceptionally low water for spring.
This beaver house had a lot of fresh wood on it.
Many granite cliffs are found in this area.
