Rudy [ˈrudɨ], also known as Rudy Wielkie ("Great Rudy") or Rudy Raciborskie, is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Kuźnia Raciborska, within Racibórz County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi) east of Kuźnia Raciborska, 20 km (12 mi) north-east of Racibórz, and 40 km (25 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice. The village has a population of 2,800.
With history going back to the 13th century, it is a site of a gothic Cistercian palace-monastery.
Rudy gives its name to the protected area called Rudy Landscape Park (in full: "Landscape Park of the Cistercian Landscape Compositions of Rudy Wielkie").
The Lepiarczyk family has lived in the proximity of Rudy for many generations. Mr. Erwin Heinrich Lepiarczyk II, of Kentucky, United States of America, has compiled and continues to compile a genealogy of the Lepiarczyk family which has earliest documented origins at Stanitz near Gross Rauden (presently Stanica, near Rudy). The Lepiarczyk family is a historic Rudy family. One of the most renowned members of the Lepiarczyk family is Viktor Lepiarczyk (1872-1914), who was born in Gross Rauden and died in Rybnik. He was a noted industrial genius and a most accomplished musician, a tuba performing artist. Excerpts of Viktor Lepiarczk's 1908 doctoral dissertation are published in some of the world's leading scientific journals. Viktor Lepiarczyk's great-granddaughter, Alina Lidia Krygier Cierniak, is a resident of Rudy.
