I was astonished by this scenery. The sun shines in the beautiful balcony around the white marble pillars with the blue sky and sea behind far away. Is it a classic Mediterranean view in the old movie?
At the first sight, I felt that I saw the princess castle in the fairy tale.
Beside the sea, the white marble castle hidden behind the forest, looks like a dream.
When I saw this view at the first glance, I knew why Jinshan is called a "Great Scenery". You can never see this when you in it. To see this you must leave it, and go farther. Maybe this just is "distance produces beauty". It is hard for Jinshan to be called a mountain. It is no more than a big rock. But please see how many things are located on it. Splendid halls, magnificent towers, elegant courtyards, exquisite pavilions, and so on, with their flowing roofs and flying eaves, so many beautiful things are put on such a small place, arranged so compactly and so excellently. What an amazing thing it should be! It is just a magnified miniascape. This Great Scenery has been painted in Chinese paintings again and again. Moreover, it had provided a paradigm of Chinese landscape architecture, and had been imitated all over the country. Now you can see "Small Jinshan" in gardens at different places, such as Thin West Lake in Yangzhou and Mountain Resort in Chengde.
Jinshan temple, whose establish dates from more than 1600 years ago, is too famous in Chinese culture. This famousness is not originated from its long history or its high level of Buddhism, but from a well-known fairy tale, the story of Lady Bai. The biggest bad man in this tale is Fahai, the abbot of Jinshan temple. In order to save his husband, Lady Bai, a fairy of white snake, made flood to Jinshan temple by her magic. But at last, she failed and was shut under Leifeng Tower(Hangzhou) by Fahai. However, the fairy tale is just a tale. In fact, Fahai is a real person. He was not bad at all. On the contrary, he was a respectable mook and a very good man. In any case, owing to this old tale, Fahai and his temple are widely known in whole China.
