This One of Two former searchlight towers located at wreck beach that were constructed during World War Two (1939-1945)to light up the water shipping lanes in the straight between Vancouver, North Vancouver and West Vancouver. They were occupied by Hippies during the early 1970's. On the bluffs above 3 large navy guns were installed to protect the waters from Japanese attack. The guns were never fired in anger and during one training session a blank was fired that skimmed the water and penetrated the hull of a freighter tied up in North Vancouver across the straight. One circular foundation is still visible at the end of the museum building located on the bluff above.
