I just about remember a horse-drawn barge carrying coal here; it was probably the last horse to be seen there! A beautiful animal.

hi peter Walcot lakes i used to love it there all the lads from the fishing club i was in used to spend the week leading up to the start of the fishing season there.We used to camp at the pub at the top of the lane and fish the pools at the back of clive of india house(there was no close season on them becase they came under welsh water).Bretby pools no i never fished it but i went there once as a BAA bayliff to check lincenses but never did fish it. hi alan hows it going?yes theres loads of fish in there i had to go there on thursday evening because my mate had got a match there on sunday and cedric who owns it dont let people walk round but im a frend of his so he lets me so we went a walk to see how it was fishing.see you soon Roger

you are right it was Terry Thomas i met him in 1973 when i was fishing for great britan at Welford on avon on the river avon.i was only 12years old he came to give us a talk.see you soon Roger

This is the spot where dc Michael Swindells was stabbed to death while chasing a suspect in will notice one of the local yobs threw a egg at it which i cleaned the next day.

It is further back along the cut, but on your picture the artist was sitting a few yards before the pillar in the canal. This chap had been made redundant from the closures of Industry in the Black Country and as he had time on his hands he tried painting!

I have never managed to find the name, but good luck to him; his paintings were really good and served to record our once thriving industries.
