Ben Lomond is the most southerly Munro (mountain over 3000ft) in the highlands standing at 3195ft. Due to its proximety to Glasgow it is also the most popular Munro for hill walkers with 30,000 people getting to the top every year!

The sea wall and esplanade were constructed in 1855, just in time for the completion of the Glasgow to Helensburgh railway line which has since brought day trippers and tourist to the town ever since.

The tree lined streets of Helensburgh have been a feature of the town for about 100 years now.Out of the 103 species planted on the streets Cherry blossom is the most prominent with varieties of Wild, Japanese and Bird cherry blossom. The best time to see these in bloom is april/may.

The islands of Inchcailloch, Torrinch, Creinch and Inchmurrin mark the highland boundary line. It is clear to see why Loch Lomond is known as the 'Gateway to the Highlands'!

According to folklore the Whangie was created by the devil swiping his tale on his way to attend a witches' Sabbath. It definately has a certain feeling about it when your up there!

Conic hill is part of the highland boundary fault which was active about 520 to 400 million years ago.

Although the official curling event had been cancelled because of health and safety reasons a few impromptu curling matches were held. A great day out for all was enjoyed, thanks to the spirit of those willing to 'risk' falling through 7 inches of solid ice!

This is the first time in 30 years that the lake has frozen over completely. Last time was 1979. Apparently in exeptionally cold winters the lake is liable to freezing due to being relatively shallow.
