Wonderful Catholic Church Picture!!!!

Favorite and Like!!!!

This is Paul Henry Arch not John Henry Arch.

Unless the picture was taken over 53 years ago, it never existed off this highway, or near Hinckley.

The large building behind the log cabin is the old town Pavillion, used for dances and roller skating back in the 1940's-50's. Hasn't been used for many decades. It was never a school house. Back in the 1990s (?) it was a private residence towards the front part of the building (facing the city park).

Neither a flood low point nor a summit really. Rain and snow melt draining off the rocks above (not much higher than the top of the rocks you can see) have created the arch. This is simply a harder layer of sandstone sitting on a loose layer of sandstone and the underlying sandstone erodes easily. Very little elevation change in this area.

Beautiful old Church Picture!!!!!

This is a great picture of historic significance perhaps unknown to the photographer as it is entitled "unknown". The building is Carthage Jail in Carthage, Illinois. On the afternoon of June 27, 1844, a mob stormed the jail killing the Prophet Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith.

Joseph and Hyrum were on the second floor seen here. The mob stormed the room shooting their way in. Hyrum was struck in the face and fell declaring "... I am a dead man". Joseph turned for the window seen here second floor. He was struck by musket fire from behind. He fell toward the window and was again struck from the ground below. He fell through the window and landed by the wooden well see here. There under the acorn tree "The man who has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world than any other man that ever lived in it" (Doctrine and Covenants 135:3), died, or was murdered, by an angry mob because of his religious beliefs.

Today the religion the angry mob hoped to put an end to by murdering its leader numbers some 15 million members found all over the world. The Temple in Nauvoo a short distance from Carthage was destroyed by others who like the angry mob hated the "Mormons" is today rebuilt in like manner of the original temple. The hate displayed by ignorance and intolerance did not and cannot stop the Gospel from rolling forth to cover the earth. Today there are 147 Temples with 26 more announced and under construction. In a coming time the world will be filled with working Temples and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will grow exponentially until the Savior returns to receive His own.

You are invited to point your browser to this URL and read the complete account of the events the last couple of days in the life of Joseph and Hyrum Smith.

I expect you will be touched deeply.

Hi LSessions,

I am a photographic artist dedicated to environmental subject matters. Currently I am working on a series of work concerning the drought of California. I found this image a great one to based a before-and-after drought comparison.

I will be visiting this Shasta Lake in August, 2015. And I would like to ask you to help me on raising awareness on this environmental predicament by collaborating with me. I would like to produce an image based on your shot and mine from the same vantage point.

To learn my works, please visit You may contact me at .

Best Regards,
