Ciao ciao!!!!

The atmosphere of this place is enough to make you drunk if you have a weakness for cultural overload.

Early in the morning, flower markets roll in on trucks, unload, and become instant "flower nurseries" throughout the town square here in Aix en Provence. But by lunch, they're all packed up and gone.

The cafe tables are grouped at the center of the square and servers bring lattes and an array of culinary wonders.

Walking up to Chateaux Grimaldi along the Eastern-most residential street provided non-stop discoveries like this triangular chimney.

We passed these bike riders quickly and it was all I could do to snap the photo through the rain-covered car window. Then, in a blink, they were gone. The color and tone of their blue riding gear is identical to mine (go Bianchi!) so I just had to have the image. Now, back home, as I ride Nashville's hills on The Natchez Trace, this image always comes to mind and I'm reminded of our great time in France.

Yes, this may be a ludicrous photo to include in a portfolio on Europe, but it's often the small human interest stuff you don't want to miss. We had stopped on this highway to get a better look of a certain building but the photo op just wasn't there. Passing by this wall, I wanted to check and see how well my new camera's auto exposure would do in near total darkness with a close-up. I snapped the picture and felt satisfied with the general exposure. Only a week later when I got home to the U.S., I discovered that someone had somehow put a heart within one of the wall tiles. Ah...only in France!
