This was a bush-whacking hike to a GPS mark for the EAST HOOSAC PORTAL ALIGNMENT TOWER - The tunnel is in the center of the shot, photo is from the remains of the tower.
This is "Center Shaft" - it sits above the center of the famous Hoosac Tunnel, it removes the train exhaust from below. If you look above via google earth, you can see the soot on the trees and grass at the end of ducts.
