The Kea is a lovely native bird, Milli85, but their numbers have been much reduced in year gone by. Not sure why, but suspect their habit has been taken over by humans, despite the fact that they are actually a mountain (parrot?) bird.
They can wreck havoc with vynyl linings on cars, wiper blades and even remove shoe/boot laces from unattented footware. Lord know what their bite is like!
But they have a lovely colour that shows up best in flight.
Unfortunetly, they have come to rely on scraps from tourists and come the 'quiter times' the birds don't know where to find food and may die as a result, further decimating their numbers.
