Crestline on October 19, 2010 Mine shaft entrance. Filled in to a depth of about 15 feet.

Looking into the entrance of the Metzger Mine. Over the years the floor of the entrance has been built up by rain runoff depositing soil from up the slope. Today the entrance is about 3 ft high. If you walk up the slope to the top of the entrance you will find the vertical shaft that was excavated to find the gold vein. Be careful! It is a 20 ft. drop! It was after locating the gold vein that this horizontal tunnel (drift) was excavated to follow the gold.
