Le Valerick campsite at St Sornin is so idyllic and peaceful. We go back year after year.

The earliest known owner of La Mauvinière is, in 1598, Mathieu Simon, lord of Cadeuil and Mauvinière, whose son Ythier gets a knighthood in 1610 in the field by Anne Pons. By marriage the estate passed to Joël Ancelin - a knighted and noble family - and remained in that family until 1752. Through marriage they were succeeded by the Ewers family. The estate and its 250 acres supported too many poorly farmers after the Revolution. There were many transformations such as reducing the porch by one stage and the construction of outbuildings that formed a closed courtyard, which is typical of the region.

Apart from this porch registered historic monuments in 1988, the area of Mauvinière also conceals well in a beautiful dome of the seventeenth, scored too, and installed in the courtyard of the house.

Although of historical interest the current owners go to great lengths to discourage tourist interests

Camping Le Valerick is situated in the hillside away from the tourist hustle and bustle but not too far that the beaches around Royan/Marennes and Oleron aren't easily accessible. Great for birdwatching, jogging, cycling (road & MTB), walking etc. etc. DO NOT expect more than you see in the picture. Whilst it has normal shower and wash facilities and very limited provisions on sale there are no bars, pools noisy games etc. However, you can get a few hot meals and relax at some picnic tables. Just what you need for perfect relaxation. Beautifully landscaped and very friendly. 1st April - 30th Sept only.

Very nice photo.

If you're looking for a quiet site (and I do mean quiet) this one is featured in the Camping and Caravanning Carefree guide and comes really recommended. Away from the tourist resorts it makes this region easily accessable with the coast about 8kms away.
