At 34 Penywern Rd in about June 1968 a guest at this address(then a small hotel)was James Earl Ray. This American was a fugitive disguised as a Canadian travelling under a false name. He tried to leave London for Belgium, but was detained at Heathrow airport as a suspect for the murder of Civil Right leader The Rev Martin Luther King. Ray was jailed for life and died in a US prison.
