Indeed! I also "sailed" by it when it was in Norfolk in about '87-'88 when it was in really bad shape. Didn't get too close but it still looked somewhat majestic. I was delivering a boat with a friend and there it was as we went from the intracoastal to, eventually, Ocean City. I heard it was going to be refurbed but didn't end up somewhere else? and now up for scrap.
This building was built by an Orcadian contractor by the name of Kirkness. The doors and windows were manufactured in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands and transported to Durban by sea. From Durban they were delivered by rail and finally ox cart to Pretoria.
