John Fox's conversations

Hey John, Lucky man. A great place to live. I bet you miss it sometimes....

Hi John, It would have been nice but unfortunately the invite was not forthcoming.

Set in a downland valley, this delightful little church makes a charming picture with its wooden bell-cote, a large house beyond, and just a few cottages nearby.

Mentioned in Domesday Book, it is half Saxon and half Norman: the Saxon church had a nave and chancel but in 1170 the Normans removed the latter and extended the church eastwards, doubling its original length and adding a tiny new chancel. Evidence of both periods is clearly seen in the walls, windows and doorways of the building. Sir Thomas Sopwith, the pioneer aviator, was buried here in 1989.

Hi J W,
It is a Beautiful place. Here's a link to a website that tells you a little bit. http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/harris/huisinis/index.html Thanks for your visit. Regards Jim C

The township of Lonbain came into existence as a result of the Clearances, with people moved off fertile land to this rocky inhospitable coastline. Over the years the houses were abandoned through population emigration. In the 1970s they were partially rebuilt as a film set for the recording of a film about the 1931 evacuation of St Kilda.

Thank you! Have a look at my Grand Canyon shots too! I

This was taken aboard the Caledonian MacBrayne Ullapool-Stornoway ferry moments after it sailed for the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It was a perfect September morning with just a hint of autumn in the air.
