AMANA는 십수년 전에 내가 살았던 곳(아이오아 시티)에서 삼십여분 떨어져 있는 곳이다. 독일 사람들이 이룬 작은 공동체 마을로 미국이지만 독일의 작은 마을을 연상케 한다. AMANA에 사는 사람들은 독일 경건주의에 영향을 받아 평화애호주의를 지향한다. 대부분 친절하며 따뜻하게 맞아준다. 스트리트를 따라 뷰티크가 많이 있는데 여름이나 연말 크리스마스 시즌에 관광객이 찾아든다. 가을이 시작할 무렵 오랫만에 다시 찾아 보았다.
