JoBab's conversations

I do still live in Buffalo, grew up between the East Side and Riverside.

I am glad you like my photos. I have been trying to capture what I know about the city especially those places and neighborhoods are forgotten about. It is a great place to live but I have never published anything yet but perhaps some day. Until then I will keep sorting through my pics and hopefully add more.

You are correct this is in Riverside. They recently (probably 10 years ago now) added this bike path and overlooks to this area, which was just weeds and guard rails. It have become a nice connection between George Washington Park or what's left of it since it sounds like it was MUCH bigger, to Riverside Park.

Great photo!

I attended UB (as it was called back in '55) ...

I walked from our home near Ontario and Niagara (Riverside section of Buffalo), and catch a bus at Ontario and Tonawanda ... I'd get off the bus on Kenmore Ave., a few blocks from Main St., and walk the rest of the way to campus for classes.

This is the sort of scene that I would see during winter days. (I don't recall missing classes, or being late.)

Thanks for this beautiful photo.

This kindles memories of my childhood growing up in the Riverside section of Buffalo. I lived there 1941-1957.

Great photo! Thanks for posting this.

I grew up in the Riverside section of Buffalo (1941-1957). In my teens in the early 1950's, we swam in the river at Strawberry Island. My brother-in-law had a motor boat and would carry us to the Island for a private swim.

Sound travels far over water. When I was a child growing up near the Niagara River (Buffalo, NY), in the summer we had our windows opened to bring in fresh breezes. In those days (1941 to about 1953), the trains were steam powered. The sounds of the engines getting up steam to cross this bridge are sweet sounds that I will always remember ... I am now almost 75 and I live in Arizona; but I shall never forget my childhood years in the Riverside neighborhood of Buffalo. Thank you for posting this photo.

Interesting composition.

Nice photo! Thank you. In the late 1950s I helped my brother build his cabin across the lake from the location where you took this photo. In spare time we had great experiences swimming and water skiing on this beautiful lake. Nice dock! Joseph Babinsky aka. JoBab, now living in Arizona.

Thank you for adding this photo of Riverside High School. I graduated from this school in 1953 and, before me, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I have nothing but fond memories of 4 years at RHS. Joseph Babinsky, aka. JoBab, now residing in Arizona.

Believe it or not, back in the late 1940s and early 50s we would bicycle from the Riverside area of Buffalo across one of these bridges (before two were here); we were heading to and from Beaver Island beach to swim. Great memories. Thanks for the photo. Joseph Babinsky aka. JoBab (graduated from Riverside High School, Buffalo, 1953).
