Start of St Declan's Way at Ballygallane - note the 'Round Hill' centre left over the river.
St Carthage's first settlement before moving into Lismore proper. This was later re-developed and used in 1270 as a motte & bailey (wooden) castle. Lismore being an ecclesiastical centre the English king John didn't dare disturb that.
Many English and mainland princes (and it's whispered Hildegard von Bingham) studied here.
This we think due to abundance of half-burnt stones was a cooking area on the highway. Someday we hope to recreate a travellers canteen - hide-skin cooking vessel and bread-on-stick as would have been the norm back over a thousand years ago.
Els with the hens - the hammock was from a trip to Cuba 1978. Sadly the hammock fell apart after years of great service. Happy memories of sunny winter (!!) dayz with my dog on my tummy to keep us warm and the Irish Times to keep us amused.
Our raised vegetable beds. The idea being that we don't have to bend so low to work on them!
Provides us with lettuce, onions, courgettes, leeks and beans.
