escargot's conversations

This trompe l'oeil painting on the railway bridge represents... a train. This a perfect example of the Port Salut school of painting which is very popular in Montereau... Anyway, that Montereau's mayor likes a lot. Since 1995, the town of Montereau-fault-Yonne has made an unprecedented effort in building new urban features in both urbain paintings (frescoes, trompe l'oeil) and statues. It has changed dramatically the perception of the city by its inhabitants and visitors, and brought Montereau to the first ranks of modern (but criticized as pompous by some) art in France.

Ce château est à Nemours et non à Montereau

It's not the Canal des Alpilles, but the Canal des Alpines, although it's neau the Alpilles

The name of the street is "Rue Descartes".

"Voiture retournée" would be more correct.

Superb paintings on social houses of the 1920's. Good photograph.

Typical of the "does in the woods" bucolic school of art, "stags' fight" is a figurative bronze double statue, inspired by the natural sceneries of the forests around Montereau. This work has soon become popular among the city's kids, dogs and pigeons. "Books on the library" is one of the oldest frescoes in Montereau-fault-Yonne, it has been painted during the very end of the XXth century in order to underline, if necessary, the vocation of this building, the community library. This realistic work belongs the Port Salut's movement, very prolific in Montereau, both with sculptures and wall paintings.
