The white on the rock is not guano but birds. The Bass Rock is home to one of the biggest colonies of gannets in the world.

The building in the foreground (with the sloping roof is the Scottish Seabird Centre whose website is http://www.seabird.org/home.asp The website shews views of seabirds on the nearby islands, including one of the biggest gannet colonies in the world on the Bass Rock.
