jaite packaging left this place relatively intact and moved on... must have thought they were in pennsylvania! most of the alteration here was done by national park service.
this used to be a fun place to hike/sled-ride until our wonderful national park service took over...
this used to be a humble oil gas station (..and route 8) in the 60's. us kids used to sneak over here from tamsin park to buy cigs. one of us would distract the clerk while another got the smokes from the machine. the hard part was coming up with the 40 cents!

this parking lot does not 'belong to UCSD'- it is part of torrey pines city beach. the city of san diego, the salk institute, and residents of la jolla farms HOA all retain legal access to this lot via an easement shared with UCSD university house, located near the top of the road.
this should be correctly labeled as ron burkle's black's beach estate- you can't even see black's beach in this shot...
