Most towns have been taking these down because of not only the maintenance costs, but people like to make prank calls with these. The pull down ones are still used in Little Falls and Bloomfield. I think there was one on my street because of a school but it was taken years ago.

LOL All the ones in Kearny have been removed, one time back when I was in grade school our class went on a field trip to the Engine Company 1 firehouse, one of the firefighters showed how the board lights up when somebody pulled the switch at one of the boxes.. How the lights corresponded with the location of the box being triggered "pulled".
What do you think of the No Train Horn policy? Personally I'm against it for obvious reasons, if people don't want the train horn then they shouldn't live so close to the line "in the neighborhood".. I personally wouldn't mind living in the area of this RR warning system..

yah The wait to see the trains for me was just little over an hour.. They had us wait in an MTA train for the line to see the old trains..
