A group from the Portal Rodeo Hiking Club made a special detour that morning on the way to the weekly hike just to see the train pass. The ghost town was not open at that time though, so I did not have a chance to see the place up close.

I have not visited the west side yet, awaiting the road over the top to open. But Rustler Park although experiencing a crown fire had been back burned previously which saved the soil and the area has lots of ground cover.

Thank you. It is a view from the Burro trail (above south fork)in the Chiricahua Mountains. The fire crews were able to protect much of Cave Creek Canyon and other areas in the interior of the mountain range. Ideally, before and after photographs from the same locations will help quantify the extent of the burn in the interior. Here is a link to the Landsat 5 image overlaid on Google Earth at Blogging from the Boot Heel showing a unburned areas.

Thank you. The oaks were not as green as expected due to this winters low temps.
