No I have not visited the site on the ground. I had heard stories about these features but it took awhile to find the actual location and get the aerial photo. It is my understanding that these are historic features and not prehistoric, created by a local early in the 1900's.

The Phelps Dodge smelter is completely gone and the site is being recovered. The town is now in the hands of homeland security. They don't like aircraft flying around but do not have jurisdiction over the airspace, so there is little they can do except call out their assets (Cessna citation) from Tucson and try and find me flying around the 1200 square miles of the bootheel.

Thank you. The erosion and weathering of the bedrock has created a number of unusual and pleasing patterns that are quite striking when viewed from just above.
