Photography is my passion, and I know it's yours. When other tourists turn over in their beds or are having a scrumptious dinner, we find ourselves outside, trying to get the light just right on that one subject we have been trying to catch all week. "How many photos can you take of that?" people ask. "Until I capture it the way I want it," we know the answer is; and then I take some more for good measure.

Tokusawa Lodge is like an European chalet on the outside and the rustic inside immediately warmed up to me. The room was like any ryokan and dinner and breakfast were simple and traditional but plentiful. Electricity was only available between 16:00 and 21:00 but everybody was so tired that nobody really minded.
To reserve you'll have to contact the Tourist office in Matsumoto.

Omikuji, random fortunes written on strips of paper at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan, tied around the branches of a pine tree and virtually everywhere else. Taken at Izumo Taisha, an important shrine dedicated to marriage; it is clear that that is a popular subject in Japan too. The reason for the pine tree (松の木 - matsu no ki) is that it is a play on words with the Japanese word for the verb 'to wait' (待つ - matsu).
